56 Executive Search is conducting a confidential search for an accomplished M&A / Private Equity Partner to join the New York office of a leading national law firm.
This opportunity is designed for an established partner with a meaningful portable practice who is seeking a sophisticated middle-market platform with significant transactional depth, integrated deal support, and the resources to further expand their book of business.
The practice advises private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, family offices, and other sophisticated investors across complex acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, and related transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex middle-market M&A and private equity transactions from structuring through closing.
- Serve as a senior strategic advisor to private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, family offices, and executives.
- Transition and expand an established portable book of business of at least $3M, with $4M to $5M+ preferred.
- Originate and deepen institutional client relationships while identifying opportunities for broader firm engagement.
- Collaborate with corporate, tax, employment, finance, and other transactional specialists on sophisticated mandates.
- Contribute to the continued expansion and market presence of the firm's New York private equity and M&A practice.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 10+ years of experience practicing M&A and private equity law, including experience at the partner level.
- Established portable book of business of at least $3M; $4M to $5M+ strongly preferred.
- Significant experience advising on middle-market acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, and sponsor-driven transactions.
- Demonstrated relationships with private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, family offices, or other institutional clients.
- Commercial, pragmatic approach with the ability to provide clear business judgment alongside sophisticated legal counsel.
- Collaborative, low-ego leadership style with an interest in building a long-term practice within a broader platform.
Key Areas of Impact
- The successful partner will have an opportunity to meaningfully strengthen the firm's New York corporate presence while leveraging an established national transactional platform. Experience within healthcare or sports-related M&A and private equity is particularly attractive, though accomplished partners across other middle-market sectors will be considered.
- Compensation: $600K to $1M, with individual economics determined by practice profile, portable business, and broader contribution.
