A non-profit organization with a multi-entity operating structure is conducting a retained search for a Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations function. Reporting to executive leadership, this role will oversee financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, audit coordination, and day-to-day accounting operations across multiple divisions and funding streams.
The Controller will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring operational accountability within a complex, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting and financial operations across multiple divisions, entities, and funding sources
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, reconciliations, and management reporting
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, and financial analysis for leadership decision-making
- Supervise and develop a small accounting team while ensuring effective execution of AP, AR, and core accounting operations
- Ensure compliance with grant, regulatory, audit, and tax reporting requirements, including oversight of external audits and filings
- Maintain strong internal controls, financial processes, and reporting accuracy across the organization
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic financial initiatives, special projects, and operational planning
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibility within complex operating environments
- Prior experience overseeing multi-entity or multi-division financial operations
- Strong background in financial reporting, close processes, reconciliations, budgeting, and audit coordination
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing accounting staff and day-to-day finance operations
- Experience with nonprofit, fund, grant, or regulated accounting environments is highly valued
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required; CPA preferred
